Short bio
Waterfahl play Nordicana. It's a unique fusion of Bluesy Americana with distinct Nordic roots, resulting in a soulful and melodic blend that is both enchanting and evocative. Blues-Folk could be another way of describing the sound.
With a vocalist whose voice has both power and heartfelt intensity and a guitarist who weaves intricate and tasteful melodies, the duo's sound is a pleasant canvas on which the harmonica paints distinctive patterns.
Discography
In 2018, Waterfahl released their debut album Sharp Flats with a full band - with subsequent airplay on BBC and the song "Romance" in rotation on DR P5. The album celebrates diversity with 11 songs about the residents of 11 flats in a building. The diversity is reflected in the music, as there is joyful pop, melancholic blues as well as indie-folk.
"The melodies are nicely arranged and sound wonderfully professional, with the laid-back, jazzy, slightly sleepy style that characterises much Americana. All performed with sensitivity, charm and confident instrumental mastery. Finn plays a captivating rhythmic guitar and Hanne sings with a fine and soulful voice. The lyrics are definitely worth understanding and listening to, served with both sorrowful lemon and sweet humour. - Allan E. Petersen, Rootszone

2020 saw the release of the minimalist and more folk-influenced EP
Birks of Burns, where four poems by Scottish poet Robert Burns were dressed in newly composed Nordicana music and are Waterfahl's take on a fusion of the Scottish and the Scandinavian.
“If Nick Drake had done Burns” – Gerard Carruthers, Editor of Oxford University Press’ works on Robert Burns

The album No Man Is an Island from 2023 is a farewell to the country that was the Fahls' home for 13 years, and it contains reflections on choices - personal as well as political. The traditional instruments - guitar and harmonica - are complemented by a few elements from the electronic universe.
"A brilliant collision of rootsy alt-country and a lo-fi sensibility, the sound succeeds in bringing the listener to a new and ambient soundscape"
– Tom Hilton, Aldora Britain Records

Two Christmas songs have also been composed along the way:: "The Christmas Show Is on" from 2020 and the Danish "Falder for jul" from 2022, which received the following words:
"The lyrics are well written and thought-provoking, and the music is moving. Form and content complement each other so well that the composition must become a classic" - Jesper Madsen.

Waterfahl are now working on their first album in Danish, with the working title Vandkanter, collaborating with various lyricists to create songs about being by and on the (water) edge.
